BM 2.7 Zero Gap market introduction

The commissioning of the first industrial installation of an Uhde BM 2.7 electrolyzer with zero gap configuration, installed at Chemical Industries Far East Ltd. in its chlor alkali plant in Singapore, was announced in November 2011.

In Singapore, energy efficiency is of very high importance, not only for strictly economic reasons, but also to reduce the environmental footprint of power generation.

Giuseppe Corti, Head of Sales at thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Italia) commented:

“The Uhde BM v6 electrolyzer is the latest evolution of the Uhde single element technology. With its full zero gap configuration all over the membrane, it has the unique possibility to separate the sealing force of each single cell from the elastic element compression, thus providing the best operating conditions for the membrane and consequently energy savings.”

The electrolyzer has a capacity of 35,700 mtpa of chlorine and replaces an existing unit based on older technology, providing a substantial contribution to achieving the elevated standards of energy efficiency that Chemical Industries is targeting for its chlorine production cycle.
