thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers equips 5th Caustic Soda Plant for VEDAN in Vietnam

thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers Japan Ltd. has been awarded the 5th caustic soda project in Dong Nai province, Vietnam, by VEDAN (Vietnam) Enterprise Corp., Ltd. (VEDAN). The scope of work includes basic and detail engineering works, procurement of all process equipment, instrumentation, piping and peripheral materials together with the supply of the latest chlor-alkali technology “nx-BiTAC plus”. The plant located in the Dong Nai province is scheduled to go into operation in 2021.

VEDAN Group is a leading producer of fermentation-based amino acids, food additive products and cassava starch-based products. Through the plant expansion VEDAN is laying the foundation to foster the production of monosodium glutamate and hydrochloric acid in order to serve the growing demands in domestic and international markets.

Since the 1990’s, thyssenkrupp has maintained a long-standing partnership with VEDAN through supplying reliable technologies for four caustic soda plants, which are still in operation today. At the contract signing, Mr. Kun-Hsiang Yang, president of VEDAN, commented: “thyssenkrupp is one of the best partners for VEDAN, and owns the most advanced technology with the best experience and services. For the new expansion project, the innovative “nx-BiTAC plus” technology will be applied. It significantly brings down energy consumption compared to earlier technologies. Shinji Katayama, President of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Japan), says: “The cathode spring mechanism called “MWX”, which optimizes the balance between stable operation and minimum cell voltage to the maximum level, is one of the most prominent features of nx-BiTAC plus. nx-BiTAC plus also maintains its compatibility with other generations. Elements of older generations of the BiTAC family can be replaced without any difficulty, e.g. in revamp projects.”
