It was established in April 2015 by integrating the electrolysis plant businesses of the formerly separated entities thyssenkrupp Electrolysis, UHDENORA and Chlorine Engineers. The majority shareholder is thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions. thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers offers leading technologies and comprehensive solutions for high-efficiency electrolysis plants. Headquartered in Dortmund, Germany, the company is represented worldwide with additional locations in Okayama, Tokyo, Shanghai, Milan and Houston. Chlorine Engineers Corporation, Ltd. is now thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Japan) Ltd., a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers GmbH
The former Chlorine Engineers Corp., Ltd. (CEC), was established on October 19, 1973. Since then, CEC has compiled an extensive record of accomplishments as a supplier of industrial salt electrolysis plants in both the Japanese and foreign markets. Using its abundant electrolysis technology accumulated from the development and improvement of electrolysis processes, CEC concentrates on the development, design, and manufacturing of equipment that fulfills social needs and is environmentally friendly.
The former Chlorine Engineers (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is now thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and the former Chlorine Electrolyzer Corp. (America), Inc. is now thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Electrolysis (USA) Inc. Both remain subsidiaries of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Japan) Ltd.

thyssenkrupp Electrolysis GmbH was the carved-out electrolysis division of thyssenkrupp Uhde, which is now part of thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions. Through the joint venture, thyssenkrupp Electrolysis GmbH became thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers GmbH.
UHDENORA S.p.A. becomes thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (Italia) S.r.l.
Now a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers GmbH, the former UHDENORA S.p.A. was originally founded as a joint company of the former thyssenkrupp Electrolysis GmbH/Germany and Industrie De Nora/Italy. The company's activities focused on the design and construction of chemical and other industrial plants mainly in the following fields: chlor-alkali electrolysis, skid mounted chlorine plants, hydrochloric acid electrolysis and bleaching chemicals.
